Officer Kat Eller started with the Boone Police Department in 2007 as a Patrol Officer and in 2012, she was promoted to Detective in the General Criminal Investigations Division. She served in that capacity up until July 2019 when she transferred to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office to become a School Resource Officer in the Watauga County School System. In July 2020, Officer Eller returned to the Boone Police Department to serve as the Community Resource Officer (CRO) for the department. She holds certifications in recognition of hours of training and years of service such as the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and has completed the Criminal Investigators Certification Program. She also has her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice which she obtained from Radford University in Virginia.

In her current role of Community Resource Officer (CRO), she acts as the liaison between the Boone Police Department and the community we serve. She assists with community relations, public education, crime prevention, neighborhoods or other area-specific problem solving and helps with coordination of other Town services to promote a professional response to the citizens of Boone. Other duties include acting as a liaison with clubs and associations within Appalachian State University, the local schools, places of worship, and other groups, develop and/or participate in community events, conduct crime prevention functions such as security reviews and tips to home and business owners, alarm ordinance management and be an overall asset to the Boone Police Department.
