Planning & Inspections
The Town of Boone’s planning jurisdiction includes both the corporate limits and extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ). It encompasses approximately 13 square miles of rapidly urbanizing land located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.
The Planning & Inspections Department assists the Town Council and appointed Boards in managing growth and promoting public health, safety and general welfare through the formulation of plans, policy recommendations as well as the administration of the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance, North Carolina State Building Codes and various nuisance codes and statutes.
It is our goal to provide the very best service to our customers in the development community, while developing strategies to guide growth in a manner that preserves and enhances both the natural and built environments and creating a community of lasting value.
The department manages several major programs including Building, Enforcement, Planning and Zoning. Through these major programs we can better focus our resources and provide better quality and more effective services to the Town.
