Boone fire BREAKING NEWS!!! BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On August 3, at 4:10 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire at 2693 NC Hwy 105 S. Engine 3, Engine 5, Squad 1 and two staff vehicles responded. Foscoe Fire Department responded an engine to the scene for assistance and Watauga Medics provided a paramedic unit at the scene. When the first units arrived, light smoke was observed coming from the D side exterior wall and roof area. The fire originated inside the exterior wall on the D side. The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Damage was estimated $15,000. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO TWO STRUCTURES FIRES WITHIN 6 HOURS On July 28, 2008, just before 7:30 PM, Boone Fire was notified of a structure fire at 677 Whispering Hills Road. Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 8, Squad 1 and 3 staff vehicles responded to the alarm. Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue and Deep Gap Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene. Cove Creek Fire Department provided an Engine at Boone Fire Station 1. The fire was located in the attic area of a multi-family dwelling. A strong line of thunder storms had move through the area just prior to the alarm. A lightning strike caused the fire. The building had numerous void spaces that made accessing the fire more time consuming. The fire caused approximately $225,000 in damage. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Boone Fire units cleared the scene at 1:23 AM. At 1:25, AM, Boone Fire was notified of a structure fire with possible entrapment at 4664 Junaluska Road. Engine 4, Engine 8, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, and three staff vehicles along with mutual aid tankers from Cove Creek and Meat Camp Fire Departments responded to the alarm. Watauga County Sheriff's Officers arrived on-scene and advised that all occupants of the home were outside and accounted for. Heavy fire was observed on the A/D side of the structure. Engine 8 used a truck mounted master stream to reduce the volume of fire. Hand lines were then used to achieve final extinguishment. Damage to the structure was estimated at $112,500. The fire was ignited by an electrical malfunction. Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue manned Station 2 with an Engine during this fire. No injuries occurred as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE PERFORMS HIGH ANGLE RESCUE On July 16, 2008, at 6:04 PM, Boone Fire was dispatched to a report of a fall victim with obvious leg injury on Winkler's Creek Road adjacent to the creek. Engine 3, Squad 1 and one staff vehicle responded to the alarm. Boone Fire personnel arrived and found the victim down a steep embankment with an obvious leg injury. The patient was package and removed using a rope rescue system to the roadway above. Watauga Medics then transported the patient to Watauga Medical Center for treatment. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On June 7, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a reported structure fire at 314 Meadowview Drive. Engine 4, Engine 5, Squad 1 & one staff vehicle responded. A pot of oil had boiled over igniting combustibles near the stove. The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported. BOONE FIRE ASSISTS FOSCOE FIRE DEPARTMENT AT A STRUCTURE FIRE On June 7, 2008, just after 7:15 PM, Boone Fire responded to Alpine Acres Lane to assist Foscoe Fire Department at a structure fire. Tanker 1, Engine 8, and two staff vehicles responded. Engine 8 established a water supply point and filled tankers. Tanker 1 hauled water to the scene. The fire was started by a lightning strike. No injuries were report as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On June 10, 2008, just after 3:45 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a fire inside a residence that had been struck by lightning. Engine 4, Engine 8, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, Squad 1, one staff vehicle, and a mutual aid tanker from Foscoe Fire Department responded to the call. Lightning had struck a gas line and run into the house. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On May 1, 2008, at 12:43 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a fire at 342 Stadium Heights Drive on the campus of Appalachian State University. Engine 5, Engine 8, Squad 1, and two staff vehicles responded. Light smoke was observed on the first floor of the building and traced back to an elevator equipment room. The fire inside the room was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported due to this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On May 5, 2008, at 7:21 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a kitchen fire at 219 Green Street. Engine 3, Engine 5, Squad 1, and two staff vehicles responded. The fire was extinguished without incident and fire damage was limited to the kitchen with smoke damage in the rest of the apartment. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A NATURAL GAS LEAK On May 19, 2008, at 9:46 am, Boone Fire responded to 140 Gateway Drive for a report of a natural gas line that had been cut and was leaking. Engine 3, Engine 4, Squad 1, and four staff vehicles responded to the alarm. Boone Fire personnel stopped the leak and then released the scene to the gas company for repairs. Boone Fire personnel were on the scene for approximately 1-1/2 hours. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE PROVIDES MUTUAL AID TO DEEP GAP VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT On May 25, 2008, at 5:06 PM, Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Department requested assistance from Boone Fire at the scene of a vehicle fire. A 1-ton truck was pulling a trailer loaded with hay when a fire started on the trailer. Engine 8, Tanker 2, and two staff vehicles responded. Engine 8 utilized a truck mounted master stream to suppress the fire. Tanker 2 provided water. Boone Fire personnel assisted in overhauling the vehicle fire and also controlled a grass fire that occurred on the bank next to the truck and hay trailer. BOONE FIRE PERFORMS EXTRICATION On May 27, 2008, at 11:37 AM, Boone Fire responded to a reported motor vehicle collision with entrapment on NC Hwy 105 S. Boone Fire extricated one patient and assisted with medical care. Engine 8, Squad 1, and three staff vehicles responded to this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A PROPANE TANK LEAKING On May 30, 2008, at 2:54 PM, Boone Fire responded to 2889 Old Hwy 421 S for a report of a propane tank leaking. Engine 3, Engine 8, Squad 1, and two staff vehicles responded to the alarm. Boone Fire personnel burned off the leaking tank to reduce the pressure and stop the leak. The scene was released to the gas company so appropriate repairs could be made. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE On April 10, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Laurel Reach Lane. Engine 3, Engine 8, and two staff vehicles responded to the alarm. A fire had originated on the rear deck of the residence. The homeowner had been able to extinguish the flames. Bone Fire personnel checked to be sure the fire was extinguished and then overhauled the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE On April 10, 2008, at 11:38 PM, Engine 3, Engine 5, Engine 8, Squad 1, Tower 1 and two staff vehicles responded to a structure fire at the Boone Saloon on King Street. Moderate smoke was venting from the front of the structure when the first engine arrived. Fire was visible at the rear of the building on the main floor and roof areas. Engine 5 utilized an elevated master stream to knockdown the fire with final extinguishment accomplished by hand lines inside the building. The fire was declared under control just after 12:00 AM. Damage to the building and contents was estimated at $325,000. Fire crews remained at the scene for approximately 5 hours. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE On April 17, 2008, at 3:50 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a possible structure fire in the area of Deck Hill Road and Flat Top Road. The fire was located off of Flat Top Road on Golden Ridge Road inside Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue's district. Engine 4, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, and three staff vehicles assisted Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue extinguishing this fire. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A VEHICLE FIRE INSIDE A PARKING DECK ON THE CAMPUS OF APPALACHIAN STATE On April 26, 2008, at 10:26 AM, Engine 5, Engine 8, and one staff vehicle responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Rivers Street. While en route, Boone Fire units were advised that the structure fire was in fact a vehicle fire inside the parking deck located at 462 Rivers Street. Engine 5 arrived and extinguished the fire without incident. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On March 12, 2008, at 7:57 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of an automatic fire alarm at 239 Marich Lane. While en route, the alarm was upgraded to a structure fire response. Engine 3, Engine 5, Engine 8, Squad 1, Tower 1, and three staff vehicles responded to the alarm. A fire had started on the deck of an apartment building and then burned into the wall and between the floors of the building. The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were report. BOONE FIRE ASSISTS BLOWING ROCK FIRE AND RESCUE AT A STRUCTURE FIRE On March 16, 2008, at 4:07 AM, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue requested assistance with a structure fire at 296 Tweetsie Railroad Land. Engine 8, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, and three staff vehicles responded to the alarm. Units arrived to find one building with total fire involvement and fire threatening adjacent buildings. Engine 8 utilized a truck mounted master stream to suppress the main body of fire and prevent extension to the other buildings. Boone and Blowing Rock units remained at the scene for approximately three hours. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On March 25, 2008, at 11:13 PM, Boone Fire responded to a reported structure fire on Saratoga Lane. Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 8, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, and four staff vehicles responded to the alarm. Additionally, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue and Foscoe Fire Department each sent a tanker and manpower. First arriving units found a large residential structure with very heavy fire involvement. The driveway to the residence was very long and narrow, limiting apparatus access to the scene. A wildland fire was ignited as a result of the structure fire but was controlled without incident. The structure, valued at $3,000,000, was a total loss. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO 14 INCIDENTS IN 24 HOURS On February 1, 2008, Boone Fire responded to 14 incidents. The Boone area was experiencing icing and high winds that resulted in numerous calls for service of trees and power lines down onto buildings and roadways. Boone Fire also responded to the usual assortment of medical calls, automatic fire alarms, and auto accidents during this time period. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE On February 6, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a report of a commercial structure fire on New Market Center Drive. Engine 3, Engine 5, Engine 8, Squad 1 and two staff vehicles responded to the scene. First arriving units observed moderate smoke venting from the rear of the building with the automatic sprinkler system operating. Boone Fire personnel entered the structure and located a fire in a rear stockroom. The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported. BOONE FIRE EXTRICATES ONE VICTIM AT A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT On February 26, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on the NC 105 Bypass near Greer Lane. Engine 8, Squad 1, and two staff vehicles responded to the alarm. One victim was extricated from his vehicles and transported by Watauga Medics to Watauga Medical Center for treatment.

Boone Fire responded to numerous sprinkler activations caused by freeze damage to pipes in addition to responding to a structure fire, medical calls, and motor vehicles accidents. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On January 3, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Hensels Lane. Upon arrival, smoke and fire were observed venting from the left rear of the structure. The fire was extinguished without incident. BOONE FIRE PROVIDES MUTUAL AID TO COVE CREEK AT THE SCENE OF A FIRE IN A RECREATIONAL VEHICLE On January 7, 2008, Boone Fire responded with a crew to assist Cove Creek Volunteer Fire Department at the scene of a fire inside a recreational vehicle. Boone Fire assisted with fire control and provided manpower. The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A REPORT OF A STRUCTURE FIRE IN A COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE On January 25, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Meadowview Drive inside a commercial condominium complex. First arriving units found that an electrical device had malfunction and caught fire. An employee inside the business was able to use a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire. Boone Fire personnel ventilated the structure and ensured there was no extension of the fire. Engine 3, Engine 5, Squad 1 and 4 staff vehicles responded to the alarm. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE AT A TRAILER PARK On January 29, 2008, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Winter Drive. Engine 3 arrived to find a small out-building fully involved with fire extending to a nearby trailer. The fire was quickly extinguished without injury. On December 6, 2007, at approximately 6:30 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a possible structure fire in an apartment building on the campus of Appalachian State University. Engine 3, Engine 5, Tower 1 and three staff vehicles responded to the scene. The source of the fire was determined to be an overheated motor on a furnace. Damage was confined to the motor and no injuries were reported.

One patient was extricated from a vehicle and then transferred to an air ambulance for transport to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment. BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A STRUCTURE FIRE On December 30, 2007, just before 1:00 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Charlie Hollar Road. Engine 3, Engine 8, Tanker 1, and four staff vehicles responded to the call. First arriving units found a barn with extensive fire involvement. A motor vehicle adjacent to the barn was also burning. On Monday, November 11, 2007, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire. Engine 3, Engine 4, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, and two staff vehicles responded. A fire had originated in the attic area adjacent to the chimney. The fire was extinguished without incident and no injuries were reported. Damage to the structure was estimated at $20,000.
BOONE FIRE EXTRICATES FOUR PATIENTS AT A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
On November 23, at 10:59 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Squad 1 arrived to find three vehicles involved in the crash. An SUV had been stopped waiting to turn left from NC Hwy 105 onto Poplar Hill Drive when it was struck from behind by another SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The force of the collision propelled the stationary SUV into a Watauga County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction on NC Hwy 105. Boone Fire extricated four patients. Two patients were taken to Watauga Medical Center and two patients were transported by air ambulance to Johnson City Medical Center. Engine 2, Engine 4, Squad 1 and one staff vehicle responded to the call.

BOONE FIRE EXTRICATES PATIENT AT A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
On October 4, 2007, at 9:10 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on US Hwy 421 near Westview Heights Drive. Boone Fire extricated one patient from a vehicle, provided medical care, and removed debris from the roadway. Engine 3, Squad 1, and three staff vehicles responded.
BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A PROPANE LEAK
On October 10, 2007, just after 12:00 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a propane leak on the campus of Appalachian State University. The gas company was in the process of replacing the two underground tanks. After unearthing the tanks, it was discovered that both 1000 gallon tanks had extensive corrosion damage to the valves and piping causing the tanks to leak. Boone Fire personnel setup a safe zone and evaluated the tanks to determine the options for rendering them safe. Due to the extent of damage the tanks had suffered, the product inside the tanks could not be safely transferred to another tank and had to be burned off onsite. Engine 3, Engine 8, Squad 1, and three staff vehicles responded to the call. Boone Fire personnel were on-scene for approximately six hours.

On October 14, 2007, at 2:49 PM, Boone Fire responded to assist Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue with removal of a patient from the Boone Fork Trail. Engine 1 and one staff vehicle responded to the call. Boone Fire personnel assisted in carrying the patient back to the trailhead. The patient was transported to Johnson City Medical Center via a Wings Air Rescue helicopter.

On October 15, 2007, at 11:50 PM, Boone Fire responded to the Green Park Inn on Valley Boulevard in Blowing Rock to assist Blowing Rock Fire at a structure fire. Engine 3 responded to the incident and assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. Boone Fire personnel were on-scene for two hours.

On October 19, 2007, at 2:44 PM, Boone Fire was dispatched to an ATV accident off of Queen Street. The victim of the accident was approximately 75 feet off a service road below a water tank. Boone Fire personnel setup a rope system for patient removal, assisted with patient packaging, and provided medical care to the patient. Engine 3, Squad 1, and one staff vehicle responded to the call.

On September 9, 2007, at approximately 8:39 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a dryer on fire inside a laundry room of an apartment building. Engine 3, Engine 5, Tower 1 and one staff vehicle responded to the call. The fire was contained to the dryer and did not spread to the structure. No injuries were reported.

On August 4, 2007, just before 4:00 PM, Boone Fire responded to the Boone Fork Trail on the Blue Ridge Parkway to assist Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue with removal of an injured hiker. Boone Fire personnel assisted in removing the patient from the woods. Car 1 responded to this event with two personnel.

On August 5, 2007, at 7:40 Am, Boone Fire responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Blowing Rock Road at the United States Post Office. Engine 3 arrived to find a tractor and trailer on fire at the rear of the building. The fire was contained to the vehicle and the building did not receive any damage. Engine 3, Engine 5, Squad 1, Tower 1 and three staff vehicles responded to the alarm.

On August 9, 2007, just after 9:00 AM, Boone Police requested Boone Fire assist at a crime scene. A body had been discovered inside a vehicle in a parking lot. Squad 1 responded and assisted Police Department Investigators in removing the decedent. The Boone Police Department is investigating the incident.
BOONE FIRE ASSISTS THE WATAUGA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
On August 13, 2007, at 9:15 PM, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from Boone Fire. A man armed with a gun was involved in a stand-off with Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office on the NC Hwy 105 bypass. Boone Fire units shutdown access to NC Hwy 105 Bypass and stood-by to provide fire or medical assistance if the situation arose. The situation was resolved and the man was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office.

On August 26, 2007, just after 1:30 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on King Street. Engine 8 arrived to find a large pile of cardboard burning on the rear steps of a business. The fire was extinguished before it could spread inside the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Engine 8, Engine 3, Tower 1, and three staff vehicles responded to the incident.

On July 3, 2007, just before 9:30 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Blowing Rock Road near the Boone Mall. Engine 4, Squad 1 and one staff vehicle responded. Boone Fire personnel extricated one victim and assisted Watauga Medics with patient care.
BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A FIRE ON THE CAMPUS OF APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY
On July 5, 2007, just after 5:00 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of an unknown type of fire on the campus of Appalachian State University. Engine 3, Engine 8, Squad 1 and four staff vehicles responded. A fire was located on the loading dock of the bookstore. The fire was extinguished without incident. Investigation of the fire was turned over to the Appalachian State University Police Department.

On July 5, 2007, just after 9:30 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on NC Hwy 105 near the High Country Inn. Engine 3, Squad 1 and three staff vehicles responded to the call. Three vehicles were involved in the accident. One victim had to be extricated from her vehicle. Boone Fire assisted Watauga Medics with patient care.
BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A MAN STRUCK BY A FALLING TREE
On July 11, 2007, just before 10:00 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a man being struck by a falling tree. Engine 2, Engine 3, Squad 1, and two staff vehicles responded. The victim had been involved in clearing trees and debris from a lot when a tree that had been cut struck him. Boone Fire personnel assisted with patient care, cleared debris from the area, and setup a rope system to remove the victim from the scene to a waiting Watauga Medics Unit.
BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE
On July 20, 2007, just before 5:00 PM, Boone Fire responded to a reported structure fire on Rocky Lane. Engine 4, Engine 8, Tanker 1, Tanker 2 , and one staff vehicle responded to the call. A dryer had caught fire. The dryer was extinguished and then removed from the building. Damage was limited to the dryer. No injuries were reported.
BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A FIRE INSIDE A CARGO TRAILER
On July 24, 2007, Boone Fire responded to a report of a fire inside a cargo trailer. The cargo trailer had been involved in an accident and fire earlier in the day outside of Boone Fire’s district. The cargo trailer had been towed to a storage lot. After arrival at the storage lot, the cargo trailer ignited again. Engine 3, Squad 1, and two staff vehicles responded. Vent holes were cut in the top of the trailer and a mixture of foam and water was applied to the contents of the cargo trailer. The trailer had been hauling produce when the accident occurred.
BOONE FIRE RESPONDS TO A REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE
On July 28, 2007, just before 9:00 AM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Blakeman Drive. Engine 4, Engine 8, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, Blowing Rock Tanker 1, and two staff vehicles responded. Excavation work was being done around the foundation of a home. The equipment operator struck an underground power line, igniting a fire on the exterior of the home. The fire was extinguished and Boone Fire personnel secured the scene until the incident was turned over to Blue Ridge Electric. No injuries were reported.
BOONE FIRE ASSISTS FOSCOE FIRE DEPARTMENT AT A STRUCTURE FIRE
On July 28, 2007, just before 8:00 PM, Boone Fire responded to Broadstone Road to assist Foscoe Fire Department at the scene of a structure fire. Tanker 1 and two staff vehicles responded. Tanker 1 participated in a water shuttling operation while other Boone Fire personnel assisted Foscoe with extinguishment of the fire.
