The Town of Boone’s Department of Public Works is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy Public Works Director. This employee performs difficult skilled technical and administrative work assisting in planning, directing, coordinating and supervising the operations, services and staff of the department, assisting the Public Works Director with the creation and maintenance of reports, records and files, serving as the Director in his/her absence and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Public Works Director. Departmental supervision is exercised over assigned personnel.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or sanitary engineering or related field and extensive experience in public works management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of public works and public utilities administration and operations; thorough knowledge of relevant Federal and State regulations and standards; thorough knowledge of local government budgeting, financial management and purchasing practices; ability to plan, direct and review the work of subordinate employees; ability to analyze data and make decisions; ability to develop short and long term plans as it relates to public works and public utilities projects; ability to take the larger perspective into account, recognize organizational and community priorities and balance actions appropriately; thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work; ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally; ability to prepare written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, associates and the general public.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Salary
$75,306 or DOE Employee will serve a six-month probation.
