The Town of Boone is embarking on creating the Community Climate Action plan. This plan will be used to guide the municipality, the residents, and all community partners on actions that need to be taken in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced in the Town limits to zero by 2050. Using the data gathered from the initial survey entitled the “Community Climate Opinion Survey”, Town staff are asking community members to please participate in the next iteration of data collecting and public input.
In a partnership with ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives), the Town of Boone now knows the exact amount of greenhouse gasses the community emits. “By compiling this data, we know where we are as a community. With the information we now know, we are asking for the community to participate in the planning process with us. We want to share this data and learn more about where our community stands on climate change and its impacts that affect us. In the end, we want to work together as a community to make a change!”- George Santucci, Sustainability and Special Projects Manager.
